Physics Workshop Series
Winter 2026

Overview
The Foundation of Physical Science
This course is your entry point into the fundamental laws that govern the universe. Learning physics is about developing essential analytical and mathematical modeling skills. This process—observing a complex event and breaking it down into logical, predictable steps—is the core of physical science itself. These reasoning skills are widely used in fields ranging from aerospace and mechanical engineering to data analysis and problem-solving in daily life.
Kinematics
Over the course of this unit, we will explore Kinematics, the fundamental branch of physics dedicated to describing motion. Every time you drive a car, throw a ball, or watch a satellite orbit the Earth, you are witnessing kinematic principles in action. As such, understanding the language of motion—how we define position, speed, and acceleration—is the bedrock for all of physical science and engineering.
Core Concepts & Skills
This unit will teach you the core concepts required to precisely describe one-dimensional motion based on the Advanced Placement Physics 1 curriculum! We will focus on:
-
Week 1: Introduction to Kinematics - Vectors, Displacement, Velocity
-
Week 2: Acceleration - Graphs, Physics Integrals, Tangents/Secants
-
Week 3: Lab Day! - Experimental Procedures, Linearization, Math Models
-
Week 4: Kinematics Problems - Derivation, Free Fall
Lesson Structure
A combination of notes/lecture, concept checks, worksheets, and fun review games like Kahoot, Blooket, and Wayground (formerly Quizizz)! Interactive lab activity included third week…short lessons offering both conceptual and analytical ways to solve physics problems using kinematics!
